Spring Cleaning
Have you started your spring cleaning?
The sun has started to shine (some days anyway) and the birds are singing. Doing a deep clean of your home or business during spring is almost like a ritual. If you haven’t started your spring cleaning yet follow our helpful tips to make your spring clean go like a dream.
Check List Per Room
Whether you do a room at a time or go the whole hog in one go, make a handy check list of what you want to achieve in each room and what equipment you will need. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- One of the quickest ways to make a difference is to de-clutter. Look at items in each room and choose to keep it, donate it, sell it or throw it away. Cleaning without the clutter will be much easier.
- Start at the top of your room, check all light bulbs are working and do a dust and cobweb clean of light fittings and curtain / blind fittings.
- You can have your curtains and blinds professionally cleaned. Depending on the care label you could wash them yourself or even give them an airing on the line (on a Sunday daytime – check with the met office for up to date weather forecast) and a vacuum using the upholstery brush attachment.
- Wash down windows and frames – sparkling clean windows will let the sunshine.
- Don’t forget any mirrors and glass panels.
- Wash skirting boards, door frames and any other woodwork.
- If you have any throws, cushions or blankets either wash them, have them dry-cleaned or hang out to freshen.
- Check the care labels on your sofas and chairs give them an extra clean or vacuum and put back your throws / cushions etc when they are clean and dry.
- Give your floors an extra vacuum or scrub to leave them sparkling.
- As a finishing touch a nice bunch of flowers will help bring spring inside and spread some sunshine.
Kitchens
Most kitchens are the heart of the home, with the extra flow of people in and out along with grease from cooking your kitchen might need a bit more elbow grease than the other rooms of your home. Along with the above check list the below tips should make this room a breeze too. When you have de-cluttered, get armed with plenty of cleaning cloths and either a household kitchen degreaser / cleaner or why not go DIY & ECO friendly and try using vinegar and baking soda?
- Start at the top of the kitchen units, an old tooth brush is great for getting into the grooves of any cornice at the top of units.
- Dry each section after cleaning to avoid streaks.
- Empty cupboards, clean inside and have a tidy up of contents before you put them back in.
- Clean worktops. Ensure you move contents on the worktops so that you can get underneath where they usually sit – don’t forget to empty your toast crumbs!
- The oven – a job nobody likes. There are lots of companies that offer a professional oven cleaning service, if your budget doesn’t stretch to that there are lots of cleaning products to help cut through any grease build up and leave your oven sparkling.
- Clean the cupboard doors and kickboards before finishing with the floor.
Always read the instructions for cleaning products and never mix products
